Fans Rejoice at News of a Ted Lasso Return

Hold on to your knee-high socks and hang up those “believe” signs, because Ted Lasso is back! Yes, you read that right — the heartwarming, feel-good show about an overly optimistic American coach who is hired to lead a men’s British soccer team that managed to win our hearts (and maybe a few games) is returning for Season Four on Apple TV+. The news came earlier in March, and just like Ted’s homemade biscuits it’s sure to be sweet and addicting.

Let’s start with what you really want to know: who from the original cast will be making a return? Jason Sudeikis is back as the titular Ted Lasso. Apparently, after three seasons of coaching a bunch of grumpy footballers and having moments of deep existential dread, Ted has decided he’s not done with inspiring soccer’s — sorry, football’s — elite with nonsensical midwestern slang. Season Four promises to see Ted return to the pitch in an entirely new way, as he’ll be coaching a women’s team this time around. Hannah Waddingham, who plays Rebecca, the owner of AFC Richmond, is rumored to return, as well as Jeremy Swift, who plays Richmond’s Director of Communications and doubles as Rebecca’s assistant, Higgins. As for the players? The only confirmed Greyhound returning is Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, who is also an executive producer and writer.

News of a season four comes just under two years after the near-perfect supposed series finale of Season Three. Usually, beloved shows wait a decade or two after the untimely end of their runs before reviving their iconic characters. For example, Will & Grace went on to have three more seasons after 11 years off the air, proving nostalgia is a powerful drug. This “reboot,” if you want to call it that, hasn’t given Ted Lasso fans much time to miss it, but it is still a welcome surprise to see a show continue on.

Jason Sudeikis, the creator and star of the show, has promised that the new season will continue with its well-established themes of awkward inspiration and heartwarming friendships to pull at those heartstrings.
